"Extremely heavy falls at isolated places are likely over Lakshadweep Islands and heavy to very heavy falls at an isolated place over Kerala during the next 48 hours. Heavy to very heavy falls at the isolated place are also likely over Tamil Nadu on October 30 and over coastal Karnataka on October 31," it said.

It has in addition issued a warning to fishermen to suspend fishing operations over the Comorin-Maldives and Lakshadweep house and on and off Kerala-Karnataka coasts throughout succeeding forty eight hours.
"The fishermen ar suggested to not venture into the southeast sea until Gregorian calendar month thirty one and over the eastern sea until Gregorian calendar month four," it added.

After intensifying into severe cyclonic storm, Cyclone Maha (pronounced as M'maha) over east-central Arabian Sea, moved west-northwestwards in last 24 hours, stated the India Meteorological Department (IMD). In the wake of Cyclone Maha, the southern parts of Gujarat is likely to receive heavy rainfalls from next week, said IMD.



On Saturday, Cyclone Maha lay centered about 540 km south-southwest of Veraval (Gujarat) and 550 km south-southwest of Diu, as per the weather forecasting agency. Cyclone Maha is all set to gain more strength and intensify into a very severe cyclonic storm over east-central Arabian Sea during next 48 hours, predicted IMD.

"Cyclone Maha is very likely to move west-northwestwards till November 4 and recurve east-northeastwards towards south Gujarat and adjoining north Maharashtra coasts" IMD mentioned in a press release.
